Volunteers of America Hosts World-Renowned Speaker

April 28, 2009 (Sheridan, WY) – Volunteers of America Wyoming & Montana hosted author, theologian, pastor and entrepreneur Gordon T. Smith to speak with local business and community leaders on the topics of “Faith and the World of Business” and “A Christian Perspective on Vocation, Work and Career”.  The two trainings on April 1 and 2 were free to the public and had over 150 in total attendance.

The first forum, “Faith and the World of Business”, on April 1 was for local business people and community leaders.  The presentation covered how business, and especially entrepreneurship in business, is discussed in scripture and how it is viewed by Christianity.   Smith discussed how those called into business can be instruments of hope in a time of economic uncertainty and turmoil.  Close to 40 business and community leaders attended this all-day session at the Powder Horn Golf Club in Sheridan.

“It is an honor to have Gordon come speak with our community and especially those we serve”, said Jeffrey M. Holsinger, President & CEO for Volunteers of America Wyoming & Montana.  “We hope to bring more programs to our communities like this one that will help people, regardless of their background, be inspired to make a difference”, said Holsinger.

Gordon T. Smith is the president of reSource Leadership International, an agency that seeks to foster excellence in theological education in the developing world.  In addition, Dr. Smith is partner with Dr. Ralph McCall in a venture known as SoulBusiness.
